Nuxeo Weekly News - Issue #1
Hi all!
You are reading the first issue of Nuxeo Weekly News, a newsletter
that will summarise every week everything interesting that has
happened in the Nuxeo open source ECM community.
Nuxeo 5.0 GA released!
The first stable version of Nuxeo 5.0, Nuxeo EP 5.0.0.GA, was
released on Monday.
This was of course a major milestone for the Nuxeo 5 project, which
was started last year around May.
From now on, we will have two branches: a “stable” branch (currently
5.0.x) and a “development branch” (which will be called 5.1m1 to
5.1m4, then one or several beta and rc, then 5.1.0.GA).
Nuxeo in the news
The Nuxeo 5.0.0.GA announcement made it to the top page of dzone, a
social bookmarking site for programmers developped by the guys that
also manage Javalobby.

SVN and build system reorg
The SVN repository was reorganized, and we have started migrating
from Ant to Maven for our build system. The change is summarized in
this message in the mailing list
The Nuxeo 5 Developer Quickstart Howto has been updated accordingly.
Documentation updates
Florent has recently written several small goal-oriented tutorials.
Thierry has committed overview slides (in ODP): http://svn.nuxeo.org/
trac/nuxeo/browser/doc/overview
Solen has updated the evaluation guide (a short, screenshots-rich,
tutorial for people who download the application and want to quickly
get a grasp of its potential).
Conferences and presentation
Bogdan gave a presentation of Nuxeo Runtime at the Solutions Linux
expo in Paris.
The slides are now online. They are in French right now, we plan to
publish a translated version this week.
Maven site update, includes now Javadocs
The Maven site has been updated with the latest source.
It now includes the full Javadoc of Nuxeo EP.
Upcoming events
The roadmap to Nuxeo 5.1 will be discussed this week, and the Jira
and nuxeo.org roadmaps will be updated accordingly.
Development on the Nuxeo RCP platform will restart this week, after
an internal kickoff meeting at Nuxeo.
The mailing list (currently called “ECM”) will soon be split in a
developers list and a users lists, which will be called “nuxeo-dev”
and “nuxeo-users”.
The Maven site maven.nuxeo.org will be reorganised soon so as to
provide information for the released versions of Nuxeo as well as for
the development (= SVN trunk) version.
Nuxeo project looking for contributors
Here are some open tasks that we think may be interesting for third-
party contributors:
Port Nuxeo Runtime to other platforms than JBoss AS 4 and Eclipse
RCP, including: Glassfish, JBoss 5, Geronimo, JOnAS 5, SAP Netweaver,
etc.
Fix some Maven issues (including the fact that Maven Cobertura plugin
currently reports 100% coverage for all the modules, which would be
very nice if only it was true ;) ).
Write more unit tests.
Help designing and writing functional tests (that would probably
leverage the JBoss Seam testing infrastructure). See this mailing
list message for the issues we are facing currently.
Report (and, if possible, fix ;) ) bugs on the 5.0.0 release (that
will be corrected in 5.0.1).
Related News
Seam 1.1.5 and Seam 1.1.6 have been released.
Nuxeo 5.0 still ships with Seam 1.1.1, out of stability concerns, but
next Nuxeo release, Nuxeo 5.1, will be based on Seam 1.1.5 or Seam
1.2, depending on the Seam 1.2 availability.
Jackrabbit 1.2.1 has been released.
Nuxeo 5.0 ships with Jackrabbit 1.0.1, but next Nuxeo release, Nuxeo
5.1, will be based on Jackrabbit 1.2.1 or later.
