No. In this framework, groups are just groups of users. If you want to assign roles, it's done locally using local roles (but you can do it at
the root of the CPS site), not globally in the directory.

Why do you need/define groups if you cannot use them?

You use them to assign roles to groupes in the local roles management pages.
