I killed that and successfully started the cps-svn instance - sorry for
my omission.

That's what I was too scared to do up to now.

I see that I have omitted important info in my first message:

I have ZEO running, and a ZEO client, the Zope instance, which connects
to the ZEO store. For various collections of software, like eg.
different CPS versions, I have individual instances which I don't run
in parallel, but only alternatingly one of them, depending on the work
I have to do. In the meantime, I think I found and fixed the problem
(a few garbled config files).
