we have implemented something like this on our site, but it requires
that you add a 'sort items' field on sections. Then the folder contents
portlet almost already supports the sorting of items (see
getFolderItems.py) , so you'll have to customize the page template
associated with it (i.e. create a custom portlet) to make it read the
information from the current section.
I can send you the code if you want.
