A curious parallel: British Airways and Ryan Air are each requiring
passengers to present a flight ticket and a passport at both checkin and
boarding time for any flight between two countries in Europe (at least).
e.g., London to Copenhagen will require such a presentation.

There is no European Union regulation for that as far as I know. I wonder
how they explain it, in comparison to the FAA's reasoning? (Nope, haven't
searched yet, but it seems related to the topic.)

What FAA regulation applies such a thing to an international flight, other
than going formally through customs?
