Project Title: Body Cavity Screening System Project Description: The National Institute of Justice, through the Joint (Justice Defense) Program Steering Group, sponsored Quantum Magnetics in developing a stationary screening system to detect non-metallic weapons and contraband concealed within the lower body cavities. Non-metallic weapons and other contraband concealed in body cavities are a particularly vexing problem for law enforcement and corrections officers. The only effective methods of detecting such weapons today are an invasive physical inspection, which places the officer at risk, or x-raying an individual, a process that is both expensive and poses health risks. The system uses simplified magnetic resonance imaging as a safe, non-invasive alternative to x-ray and physical body cavity searches. The stationary screening system makes use of first generation medical MRI. http://www.nlectc.org/techproj/nij_p51.html
