Tim explains the situation very well. Some people will prefer a more
"privacy" protective approach, and some actually will like getting
mailings about discount brokerages, trips to Hawaii, and so on. Not
everyone wants a privacy-protective solution, and the market will
evolve to reflect it.

I understand that only about 10-15 percent of people change their
opt-in/out preferences, so defaults are important.
