In the US we use GSM1900. Note that VoiceStream says they have a roaming
*plan*; I bet they don't say that your *phone* will work overseas-- it won't
unless it's capable of using the GSM system on the frequencies used in other
countries. You can remove the SIM from your US GSM phone and use it, say, in
Australia by sticking it in an appropriately frequencied phone.

I am not familiar with the S35i phone, but my guess is that it's a GSM900
phone and thus won't work on our network here.

Isn't VoiceStream (a U.S. wireless provider) a GSM network?  I 
wonder if a TopSec would work on it.  A quick check of the 
VoiceStream website shows they offer a global roaming plan, so 
they claim VoiceStream phones work in Europe.
