We have to take in on faith that sports is not news, nor is weather, nor
traffic nor business. What is 'news' and what is not is an aspect of
epistemological contextualism that is beyond the scope of this listserv. As
for the Delhi CM discussing her idea of governance, it is the BBC's subtle
interpretation that if you talk *about *someone, it is news, but if you talk
*to* someone, it is not news.

I somehow doubt if this is the case. FM radio licensing began in the year
2000, and if private FM players have had any 'ambition to be in this space',
they have cleverly concealed it. Nishant is right in saying that all (well,
almost all) FM players are news organisations; by and large they own
newspapers in the same markets where they operate FM stations. The last
thing they probably want is competition between the two media for the same
slice of ad pie. In more civilized countries, where they have severe
restrictions on cross-media ownership, this problem wouldn't have arisen;
but we are like this only.
