Dear Alok & Sajan,
in my opinion, reading "news" on community radio, is not against, AS LONG AS
you keep 'political' news out of your CRS. Today that is the "untouchable" part
in CRS.

When on 1 & 2nd of July we met in Pondicherry for South Zonal Consultation with
the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) and CEMCA (besides WPC
officials) we clarified this aspect.

Ms. Zohra Chatterjee of MIB did say that it has to do with political arena.
Other people from the Government were also of similar opinion.

In my humble opinion, -to be on the safer side- it is better to avoid reading
newspapers on the CRS. News is not neutral - any news is political in nature -
with some degree of polarity.

Simarly, giving sports coverage may anger the bosses in that area who have
monopolised it! At this juncture, when CRS is just groping in the dark, we
better be a bit careful. May be experience, we will learn how to negotiate
with such important ingredients of information society.

But as Vicram hinted out, giving agricultural news should be a welcome thing on
CRS. This is a typical feature of a community, a developmental issue. Here
again, political reference are best avoided.
