I had a question for all on this group. I am sure many of us are aware of National Public Radio in the US. This is a slightly different form of community radio, in the sense that it is a network of FM radio stations all over the country which are funded by public contributions and there are no advertisements on this. They relay news and views on it all day long, they have programs that talk shows like democracy efforts in different parts of the world, political views on say Darfur, Palestinians etc. News and views on Financial events/trends in the different parts of the world. It also had talks (news and views) on movies, music and other cultural events/issues etc. It has conversations on faith - about belief, meaning, ethics and ideas. Basically it covers a broad spectrum of topics. For many people it is a refreshing change from commercial radio as it caters to what people really want. For those who want to know more please have a look athttp://americanpublicmedia.publicradio.org/http://www.npr.org I was wondering if there is place for such radio in India. Also, if one has o go about it then would it fall under community radio as defined by the Indian authorities. Any thoughts, ideas, opinions on this will be welcome. FYI - I live in the US and listen to Public radio a lot and I think it is a great medium for the common man to know and contribute to the community and the world. I have talked to many friends over here and am pleasantly surprised to see that many of them are willing to ehlp and contribute to get this effort going. However, before that I want to know if it is feasible to do it. Thank you for your time and effort and I welcome anyone who wants to help push forward on this initiative.
