This is a good example of what happens if you, even by mistake, get
associated with All India Radio. They behave like BIG BROTHERS; and claim
what ever comes into their contact as theirs.

By design, experience and mental make up, All Indian Radio program officers
can not function in the way a community radio set up demands.

The NGO should not have allowed AIR this much of domination.

All India Radio's First Ever, so called Community Radio was established in
Nagarcoil, decades back. The aim was to heavily involve community of
listeners into planning and executing and participating in the programs. The
AIR was only supposed to play a 'member secretaries' role. It is due to the
structural mix and the inability of bureaucracy to learn new things and
sincerely accept the participation of the community into their affairs, that
that 'experiment' failed miserably; which they don't want to accept.

Now that, AIR being a Corporation they want to earn their livelihood in all
the ways possible. They would also like to see if they have any thing in CR
sector also. One thing is certain to happen. They would spoil the very
spirit of CR and the NGO concern would not know about this, unless they are
very careful.

Subject: Re: [cr-india] I&B ministry launches community radio?

I think Development Alternatives need to put out a clarification about whose
station this is. I can understand inaccuracies occurring as a result of
careless journalism, but the PIB itself issuing a press release claiming
this to be a) that this is MIB's radio station, and b) that this is the
first-ever community radio station. both of these are inaccurate.

The cr community should be alert to all kinds of claims and assertions that
will keep coming out now, with the cr sector picking up some steam with the
launch of a couple of stations.
