Hi Arti and all, No there are 'no' CR stations along the coastal hit area, however All India Radio stations near the coastal area broadcast weather warning and advisories with inputs from Meteorology department as part of AIR's citizens charter.
Radio stations run and owned by academic institutions have their priorities on program content quite different from what we originally thought CR in India should be in late 1990's. I doubt if they have considered emergency broadcast in their objective, not just weather but other emergency situations too. I am not sure who else in this forum is pursuing the idea of emergency radio stations, but I recall having the subject discussed with former colleague Max Martin (hope u r reading this mail max) the other day in Bangalore. He discussed fishermen in small home-brew boat getting stuck in high sea's, wherein I suggested that citizen band (CB) radio is the best bet in such a situation. I have written articles on use of ham/amateur radio 'before' the emergency situation. Usually the ham community arrives at the scene post disaster, or they just happen to be around (like during the Tsunami in 2004 a bunch in Andaman Islands). An example of use of ham radio before the emergency is that with right gear, I can download weather images from orbiting satellites and monitor the progress of advancing cyclone.
