Dear friends,
The community members of Chanderi Ki Awaaz, a prospective community
radio channel in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, the members of Bunkar Vikas
Sanstha (BVS) and the OneWorld team are happy to inform you that we have
crossed another mile stone in the CR license process. The wireless
planning commission has cleared the SACFA as per their communication
dated 6/10/2009.The team would like to thank CEMCA, especially
Ms.Monica, for getting us through the WPC clearances in the most
painless and efficient manner.
Chanderi, a small town with a population of approximately 30,000 in
Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh, is a small town known for its
exquisite sarees. The weavers' community, historically exploited for
centuries at the hands of traders, middlemen and moneylenders, are today
confident with enhanced training, skills and markets.
Aspiring for more, the community turned to the use of media tools
seeking to create new livelihood opportunities. With the help of UNESCO,
BASIX and OneWorld South Asia, twenty five young volunteers were
provided training in radio programmes, video documentation and
production of newsletters and digital stories.
The Chanderi Ki Awaaz team now has produced over 80 radio programmes
<http://edaa.in/Members/chanderi> , and now are expanding their reach to
communities through listener groups and community meetings. They are
also keen observers, learning quickly from CR counterparts at different
events and training programmes, including those organised by Bundelkhand
Radio, Indeosync Media Combine and UNIFEM, and DST/CEMCA.
It is a moment of hope and aspiration for all of us, and we thank all
those of you who have co-operated guided and encouraged us along the
way. We look forward to your continued support through the final phase,
i.e. final clearances, installation and start up.
