We are happy to inform you about the celebrations of *Community Sovereignty *by the members of the women sanghams of the Deccan Development Society. Marking the 25th birthday of the Deccan Development Society, the *Day of Community Sovereignty* celebrates the sovereignty the women have achieved over foods production, seeds, healthcare systems, market and media [which we in the DDS describe as the Cycle of Autonomies]. The Deccan Development Society [DDS] is composed of about 5000 women farmers from about 70 villages in the Medak District of Andhra Pradesh. A majority of them come from dalit homes, belong to very low income households. In spite of all these handicaps they have shown the world that it is possible to establish autonomy over their farming, food production, seeds, market and media. In this sense they are an inspiration to the rural women all over the world. Therefore the celebration of *Community Sovereignty* is being held befittingly on October 15, 2009, the International Day of Rural Women. October 15, 2009 also marks the first anniversary of the *Sangham Radio*, the first Community Radio in India and the first women and dalit community radio in the world. This day also marks the eighth anniversary of the formation of the Community Media Trust, the first all rural, all women media trust of the country. On this day the women of DDS sanghams will showcase their seeds, crops, agriculture, market and media to a large number of women from their neighbouting villages and to a select group of invitees.
