That's great HV. Three years of incubation period would make you more
determined to progress.
I thought, Radio SARANG had the  longest incubation period  - 27 months! Heval
Vaani outdoes us !
Good wishes for the future.

Dear All:Congratulations indeed to Heval Vaani. Test broadcasts began at 3:30pm
on the 2nd of March exactly 3years from the time they received their LOI on
18th March 2009. We are assisting in documenting their arduous journey which
provides much learning on all aspects from participation to sustainability. The
next two years will be about rebuilding their community which has been waiting
for the broadcasts to begin for more than five years ever since the team began
their narrowcasts in and around the villages of Chamba. Thankfully things won't
stop due to arrears in spectrum fee which is currently covered - which however
is something that we need to address through advocacy as the spectrum fee
charge begins from the moment a station receives frequency irrespective of when
it begins broadcasts and does not take into account genuine challenges faced by
groups like Henval vani.Since the station did not have resources for a tower
their antenna is mounted on
a temporary pole - a water pipe on top of their studio building! Rajender Negi
and Raghu from Henval Vani themselves mounted the antenna thanks to the
training provided by Nomad - and a model we should follow in terms of all
trainings for CR. The phone lines are already ringing says Rajender and the
team is putting together their first broadcast schedules. The airwaves in
Chamba are now resounding with  Garhwali music, the Yuva Manch show and the
Hamara Gaon programs that the teams have generated over the years! It is a time
to celebrate and to look ahead! Congrats to all who contributed to the success
of Heval Vani and a bow to the patience and perseverance of the team.Venu

congrats team HV and Nomad for coming so far.
for the patience, resistance and commitment.

How much does a low cost tower cost? Can't we think of crowd funding!?

While traditional tower design is bolted (or welded) steel sections or
SAW/extruded pipe, alternate designs can be put together using locally sourced
wood or bamboo (depending on availability). This may reduce the cost
considerably. It may also be competitive in terms of ToC, given that the
relatively shorter life expectancy of hemp-bound wood/bamboo is potentially
offset by its lower cost and the use of local traditional construction methods.
In places where the latter is not a given, it can still be worthwhile to build
one using a local 'barn-raiser' (ie a community construction workshop), where
the knowledge gained might percolate into other construction areas, reducing
dependency on 'imported' fabrication vendors. Importantly, the design itself
will almost certainly be locally generated, which may also be an important plus
point.

Would there be any documented instances in India or elsewhere, - of barn
raisers or similar workshops leading to community radio infrastructure being
set up?
