Ram B, Geeta:
My submission is that this is too premature. The revised policy draft is due to be placed in the public domain for input, hopefully later this month. That would be the time to talk about this in greater detail, since there will be a document from MoIB that actually articulates this for us.

Its a tricky one..
Maybe Stalin or Ram N can just issue a brief statement
saying that we are working closely with MoIB on the policy review
and we are confident of getting permission to broadcast news and current affairs,
in line with Article 19 1 A, or something to that effect?
I don't think it will help push the decision though :)
Already the private radio people are upset about 5 minute ads,
no spectrum fee and other concessions,
and they will Absolutely not allow us to get news,
while they broadcast AIR news "as is" !

best,

Ram

wow! that's good...you think some publicity on this - discussion
etc - will help push the decision?

Yes, it is the old position
we are now undergoing policy review with MoIB,
and the revised policy draft does recommend permission to
        broadcast news and current affairs
we will have to wait to see how the Cabinet responds,
we should know for sure by end of Jan 2013.

No proposal to allow news on community radio stations

                Indiantelevision.com Team

                (6 December 2012 8:45 pm)

NEW DELHI: There is no proposal at present to permit
community radio stations to broadcast news, even as
the government has decided to permit FM radio stations
in Phase III to carry All India Radio on ‘as is where
                is’ basis.

Information and Broadcasting Ministry sources said
that community radio stations are required to preserve
all programmes broadcast by the CRS for three months
from the date of broadcast, for purposes of monitoring.

Nothing should be included in the programmes that may
amount to attack on religions or result in promoting
                communal disharmony.

Any violations of the Programme or Advertising Codes
can suo moto be placed by the Ministry before the
                Inter-Ministerial Committee.
