A very interesting hypothesis. Free from any value judgement though, I would
hope.
Because if our social speed-up shuts down the nice emotions of sympathy
etc., it may also someday shut down the nastier emotions that motivated all
the pogroms, wars, lynchings, and the emotional pain that may underlie
alcoholism, child abuse, etc. through history.
Perhaps we'll become affectless like the notorious "grays", but this change
may have an upside...
