This reliance on fossil fuels leads to real waste and silliness. A trucker friend of mine complained that he was hired to take Oregon strawberries to Cal. and California strawberries to Oregon. Suburbs get farther and farther from the jobs as white racists and upper income folks struggle to get status. These folks are more likely to get the jobs in the city as the bosses are usually folks like themselves. The light rail system in Sacramento does not go south at all where the poor people live and one of the major developments. The traffic on 99 south is unbelievable.
