Jon and all: Here is what I've had to say on the Palestinian question: The Green Party of NJ PO Box 9802, Trenton, N.J. 08650-9802 Press Release Fortunato Condemns Violence in Middle East FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 9, 2000 Contact: Joe Fortunato, 973-744-5958, email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] GREEN PARTY CAMPAIGNS IN ARAB-AMERICAN COMMUNITY. Fortunato Condemns Mideast Violence And Blasts Pascrell's Mideast Voting Record Members of the Green Party of New Jersey today went into the heart of the 8th Congressional District's Arab-American community to campaign for Congressional candidate Joe Fortunato and against the escalating Middle East violence. Members stood on busy corners along Main Street in Paterson, near its border with Clifton, passing out literature and engaging residents in discussion about their concerns. In a prepared statement distributed to passersby, Mr. Fortunato pointed out that his opponent, Congressman Bill Pascrell, cosponsored legislation prohibiting US assistance from being provided to a unilaterally declared Palestinian State. "This legislation is a disgrace," Fortunato said, "not only will it increase tensions in the region, it is an interference with the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. This ill-considered vote should be rescinded immediately." Mr. Fortunato also pointed out that Pascrell voted for $1.98 billion in military assistance to Israel and $840 million in economic assistance to Israel. The Green Party candidate went on to ask, "Isn't that a lot of money to spend when all that has come from it is more violence?" Mr. Fortunato expressed sympathy for the families of all victims of the recent violence, and especially for the family of the young boy who was killed in the crossfire between Israeli troops and stone-throwing youths, whose photograph was recently depicted in the New York Times. Mr. Fortunato supports the establishment of a Palestinian State and urges suspension of US aid to Israel until attacks on innocent civilians end. -30- _______________________________________________ Crashlist resources: http://website.lineone.net/~resource_base To change your options or unsubscribe go to: http://lists.wwpublish.com/mailman/listinfo/crashlist
