Actually, Perry, I've reached the conclusion that it's *not* important any more,
because it's inevitable, and nothing can be done about it.

Greens + "Marxists" are in denial just like everyone else. The truly pathetic online
seminar about John Foster's new book was a defining moment in the decline of
oppositional theory into terminal irrelevance, futility and the mindless careerism
of petty professors who graze like contented bovines on the very crisis they're
supposed to be analysing.

This from today's FT:

Obasanjo hit by Nigeria energy crisis
By William Wallis in Lagos

Thieves and vandals have placed Nigeria's electricity supply network in danger of
total collapse, Jerry Gana, the government spokesman said on Monday.

Whole cities and towns including Lagos, the commercial capital, have been blacked
out. Industries have been running on costly standby generators run on diesel which
itself is hard to find due to fuel shortages.

Erratic at the best of times Nigeria's power industry supplies less than half the
population of 120m. It produces less than 1200mw and has dropped in recent weeks to
levels below that of nearby Ghana with a population and economy six times smaller.

etc etc. If you are not worried enough and want more:

I don't believe in survivalism, either. I've decided that I prefer to remain
propping up the bar drinking the last of the Bollinger while the poop deck slips
beneath the black waters....

After all, no-one else much bothers, so why should I worry? Now we have W to turn
out the lights, we can simply sit back and watch armageddon coming and enjoy the
spectacle from the comfort of our own living rooms...

PS Carrol may or may not be a honey, but he is definitely a man (altho these
androgynous days you have to be careful what you say, people are easily offended).
