Honest, I'm not trying to be hard-headed. I'm just trying to make a very
basic point. SAYING "teach everyone" is not the same as DOING it. I live
in the US. We have around 270,000,000 folks here. Half of them don't
register to vote. Two-thirds can't find France on an unmarked map. They
has lost any real semblance of civic life, driving to their jobs as they
listen to some brain-dead radio station, doing their jobs in search of more
buying-capacity so they can both survive and validate their existence by
shopping, driving home, carrying their kids where they need to go, maybe
catching Headline News, a revolving info-mercial, watching their favorite
sitcom, the starting over again. When recently polled, the majority
believed that the USSR and the US opposed each other during the 2nd World
War, and they think Bill Clinton is a leftist.
Here I am. I want to step up their education program. What do I do to get
ahead of our deadline? Let's just be conservative, and say we have until
2050 before the whole thing goes permanently to hell. Don't tell me
"educate them." I want to know HOW. If I start now and talk to ten a day,
and I live to be 80, I have around 11,000 days remaining, so that means I
can talk to 110,000 people. Very optimistically, I will convince one in
ten. That means, if I find a benefactor who can pay my way and I devote
every remaining day of my life full time to this "educating," I might
convince 1,100 people that there's something to what I say. Let's see...
that's about .000004074 percent. Reality really sux!
I am a political organizer. I was paid to do that from 1996-2000. The
best in the business can get 100 people to an event if they work their
asses off for two months. Then there's the follow-up.
I'm trying to explain, as patiently as I can, that WE DO NOT HAVE THE
CAPACITY TO TEACH EVERYONE ANYTHING. This is not a plan of action.
Without a plan of action, our "knowing what SHOULD happen", along with 75
cents can get us a cup of coffee.
What we do has to take the existing situation into account.
