[My mailbox was already cluttered by large mails from the serial forwarder and now I get unwanted huge attachements. Do people think that WW pays nothing for their bandwidth? I've had enough and am going to check the list from the archives.] There has been a little discussion about US agriculture recently, and I remembered the existence of this piece... http://www.comw.org/poc/0010.html Intro: The Pulse of Capitalism, Issue 00-3, October, 2000. The Farm Economy In the agricultural sector unfettered competition leads to excess production which drives prices below cost. In an attempt to maintain profits, or lower costs, the stronger producers expand their output while weaker ones give up the business. This process goes through numerous price cycles until production becomes concentrated in a handful of producers. Although consolidation has been slow in American agriculture for a number of reasons, we are now at a point where we can envision its completion. The Jeffersonian vision of a nation of strong, self reliant, independent farmers will become just a footnote to history. And we will be faced with a whole host of new problems raised by an economy in which production is carried out under conditions of semi-monopoly. _______________________________________________ Crashlist resources: http://website.lineone.net/~resource_base To change your options or unsubscribe go to: http://lists.wwpublish.com/mailman/listinfo/crashlist
