Yes, it's clear that Fox has become the biggest buffoon on the world
scene. He combines elements of Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Cantinflas,
Zig Ziglar, and Monty Python, all in his one role as champion of the
common folk!

Bush may have a short honeymoon, but it's different with Fox in Mexico.
There, things aren't getting worse, therefore they must be getting
better! Or, at least that's the mood pushed in the capitalist media.

Fox has lept into his role as song and dance man for US imperialism in
Latin America. He's been constantly on the world scene, talking new
trade with Europe, free trade everywhere, human rights for all, and it's
going to be New Day with a hemispheric NAFTA in place!

At home, his major reform so far, has been to threaten to spank those
government officials that would harass travellers across the border with
confiscation of Christmas presents. That, with a closure of a
military base or two in Chiapas, has provided the Mexican press with the
fuel they need to represent to the public a New Deal underway.

But all of this is only held up by the continued recovery of the Mexican
economy through previous US bailout loans. Can Bush push for a
textured layoff of US workers while promoting this Mexican economic
bubble next door?

The two cowboys will soon get together to discuss it.

Tony Abdo

<He cast himself as a reformer in his native country, who hoped Mexico's
example could be followed by others seeking to bridge the divide between
rich and poor nations. He also spoke of a growing "spiritual discontent
and restlessness" that was evident on both sides of the global divide.

"We now see throughout the world a rejection of crass materialism and an
intense, undirected desire for spiritual rebirth." The solution was to
find a "new engine for growth" involving "a vast expansion of economic
citizenship" that would bring millions currently excluded into the world
of computers and the internet.>

On relations with the United States, Fox said it sent an important
message that new U.S. President George W. Bush's first trip abroad on
February 16 would be to Mexico.

"We both wear cowboy boots...and we both believe in the future," he
said.
