Thank you, Mark, for putting the really serious questions of life under
capitalism UP for discussion on the list. And the explosion of
'humorless' sex is truly pandemic.
It seems that capitalism is so very good at producing humongous
quantities of shoddy product that is truly just so much junk like the
rest of it. Why should 'sex' be a product anyway different than
others?
All the vibrators, dildos, whips, handcuffs, leather bondage
paraphernalia, porno movies, French ticklers, butt plugs, etc., sold in
the Industrialized Countries, make up what would be the 10th largest
economy of the world (a fake figure, but then again, who really knows?).
The paper used for all the advertisement used for topless clubs and
escort services alone, would be enough forest to cover the entire planet
over 100 times.... and would reverse Global Warming entirely.
And just the energy from the powerful effects of Viagra consumption
being recaptured, would be enough to power Las Vegas throughout the rest
of the 21st Century (if it could be converted to electrical power).
It's really sad to see such poor efforts under capitalism in its attempt
to rationalize production in this area of human activity. Thanks
