Belgrade, March 31, 2001, 09:00 p.m.
About 10.000 policemen in the streets of Belgrade
with special units surrounding home of President Milosevic are waiting 10:00
p.m. ultimatum to expire. During whole day these enormous armed security units
were preventing thousands of SPS supporters to gather around president's
home.
Federation President Kostunica appeared tonight
with a statement that "none individual should endanger general state interest",
after a meeting with all top state and army officials.
After last two elections in Greece, despite
numerous charges nobody attempted to arrest Papandreou nor Mitzotakis. Day
before yesterday President Chirac of France publicly declared that he has no
intention to appear in the court in connection with charges following him since
the Mayor of Paris period.
This morning's foggy and without-clear-evidence
charges against President Milosevic are either of the similar type or are
complete political construction.
Nobody can recall a case in history or in legal
practice that anybody, and especially not former head of state, was arrested on
that type of charges with thousands of special policemen.
But many cases could be recalled when USA-created
illegal dictatorial regimes, like today's Belgrade regime, produced bloodbaths.
This is now imposed in an European country as a standard of
democracy.
