Mark entreated me repeatedly to join his list, said he would be honored if I did so, etc. etc. if I would present my views. A little buttery for my taste, but OK. ( I have these emails.) Now that he disagrees with my views, he goes from one extreme to the other. In this instance, in some weird confusion of arguments, he mixes up my defense of Borodin AGAINST ARBITRARY IMPERIAL DETENTION BY THE U.S. - clearly an attempt to attack Russia and Belarus - with Mark's own fantasy about Milosevic fleeing to Belarus. Since Milosevic never wanted or tried to flee - why the hell should he when he leads the biggest party in Europe? - and since THAT is one of the things I find most admirable about his present stance - admirable for the reason I gave him when I met him, fro the first time, 10 days ago. I said: "If you ever feel that what you have done is in vain, do not be discouraged because by your heroism in refusing to flee or to CRAWL you have given a gift to every impoverished or insulted worker, farmer and intellectual in the neocolonies - that it is possible to resist." Since it is precisely HIS UNWILLINGNESS TO FLEE that I celebrated, it's really crazy to attribute my praise of Lukashenka to some hope that Belarus would receive Milosevic. I have praised Lukashenka because he tries to maintain Belarus independence against the U.S., not because he would or wouldn't accept Milosevic - who never showed the least inclination to flee. Shockingly, Mark is parroting here the western media line which kept reporting that Milosevic was fleeing, was trying to flee, had fled, etc., when in fact he remained, UNDER YUGOSLAV ARMY PROTECTION in his house WHICH IS OWNED BY THE YUGOSLAV ARMY. It was the ARMY not some private guards who shot down the DOS attackers a few days ago, forcing them to a) retreat and then b) bring thousands of reinforcements. That, by the way, is the reason the DOS leaders keep making these weird criticisms of the army for "interfering". How did they interfere, if Milosevic was being defended by NON-ARMY guards? Obviously, they interfered because THEY WERE GUARDING HIM. I have written in praise of Lukashenka and Milosevic because of their common stand: that they both have resisted U.S. domination. Therein lies my difference with Mark. In issue after issue - e.g. on the Borodin arrest - this fierce Stalinist fiercely fights for others to kneel before U.S. and English imperialism. Am I always right? I doubt it. But at least I am trying to figure out who is standing up to the enemy rather than trying to attack those who fight the enemy. As for the SPS using his list for "Spam" - isn't it obvious, especially during the present crisis when the U.S. is making an all out effort to destroy the SPS, whose statements are completely excluded from the mainstream press, that it should be precisely in a left wing forum that the views of this very large Left party should find at least freedom of expression? As for debating Miloshevich's merits - I'm waiting. I grow old waiting. It is notable that in his vicious attack, Mark does not actually provide a teeny weeny bit of thoughtful criticism of Milosevic, me, Nestor Gorojovsky, the SPS, Lukashenka - that is, of any of the very diverse group of wee, tiny individuals and powerful leaders and immense forces resisting the U.S. and England..
