Hi! The DOS port has been inoperative since 0.5, and it would take pretty serious work to get it to work again. Also, due to Crawl's bloat, 640K is no longer enough for anyone -- we quite often exceed 64M. There are no machines with that much memory which can conceivably be stuck with DOS.
The only case that came near was DosBox for iPhone -- but after successful porting it was denied by Apple whose policies ban exposing anything that can be used to give users a Turing-complete language. Not to mention Crawl's speed -- quite slow on that kind of machines natively already. Emulated at low-end 386 speed it would be unusable. Paying lip service to DOS compatibility is a burden. Thus, should we put it out of its misery? -- 1KB // Microsoft corollary to Hanlon's razor: // Never attribute to stupidity what can be // adequately explained by malice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Xperia(TM) PLAY It's a major breakthrough.
