Portable Pixmap. A dead-simple ascii-based raster image format used as the core 
of the NetPBM image toolkit to convert random image format X to random format 
Y; convert X to ppm and then ppm to Y. If I recall correctly it was invented by 
Jef Poskanzer in the early 90s.
