hi,

i may be not enough pragmatical but i hate choosing hacks for domain names.

and i hate to bring traffic to somebody who is just collecting money from
google ads, did almost agree to hand libregraphics.org to us than changed his
mind and wanted only to rent it to us for 4 years.

but, at the end, it all depends on what we want to achieve.

i had in mind an association whose goal was to spread the knowledge about the
libre graphics.
in that context it's imo important to go for a well chosen name and have a good
domain address.
i had in mind a site which would look like the wonderful LGM we had this year...
a place where people who have the energy can go after they dreams (well, from
time to time they may have to take care not to step on other people foots...).

i notice that the discussion on this few threads about the LGF focuses on the
balance among the projects, initiatives and companies to be involved. it's more
about distributing money to the projects, taking decisions, and so on.

this gives me a picture which is much more like the very useful create site we
already have at freedesktop. we don't need a domain name for it, we can
continue with create.freedesktop.org, no problem!
libre-graphics-association.org will also do.

we can build an association around it and keep on doing our good work.

(if it's this way which the association will go, i have not problem in trying
to realize what i have in mind under its umbrella...)

several people have joined this discussion after the LGM (i also stepped in
late at LGM) and i have the feeling that the discussion needs to be slightly
refocused: we should find out a bit more clearly which goals and means we want
for the LGF!

any idea how we could do this without having to meet again at the next LGM?
(and without generating hundreds of emails?)

ciao
