Hey Louis

(a) A pre-LGM starting May 7. Most of the participants to LGM will
arrive the week-end before. A series of workshops could be a good
introduction to LGM for many newcomers. The "lab" idea falls into that
category. This is also room wide open for various "unconference"
activities, talks, discussions, meetings. We plan to have rooms,
internet access and power bars, access to food and beer, etc.

I like the lab-idea too - great it can work with how you are preparing. We all
now can start thinking about what those workshops could be!
OSP will travel to Montreal with at least two people this year and we'll try to
be there early enough to help out.

(b) Monday activities. Yet to be determined but I have plans to organize
a couple of visits to printers, paper mill, etc.

(c) LGM activities every night starting Saturday May 7 until next
Saturday, May 14. This will go from a simple supper at the restaurant to
more swingy evenings and will include our LGM Supper as well as
activities with creators, artists, performers, etc. Free time to meet
and share. More to come along the road.

During LGM, we have access to and we will make use of a large room right
in front of the door of the main amphitheater at the Polytechnique. We
will have computers installed with (all/most) the LGM software.

Interestingly enough, it's fun to discover that in this year's
organisation I have met a fair number of people among which there are
quite a few women. These people will hopefully continue to play an
active role in the LGM. They are connected to the F/LOSS world and could
probably talk at LGM. More in the coming weeks.

Nice! Seems like lots of new people are ready to join LGM and we're looking
forward to discover their work.

All of this remains to be confirmed and yet to be finalized and
organized in details but this is the path we are on at present time. LGM
2011 is well on its way!!!

Thanks a lot for setting it all up and impatient to find out more :-)

the lab idea sounds good, especially if it's right at the start of
the LGM. it could be more than just the main projects - every
project could have some sort of display or presence in a kind of
expo, if they wanted to. newcomers would then be able to find the
projects that they're interested in & meet people connected to that
project in an informal way. obviously this requires resources, but
it could be up to each project to do what they want/can. the
organisers would just need to provide tables & power cables in a
    large room.

    h : )

I've been thinking about two possibilities -- a "first lgm
attendee desk" where people who don't know anybody yet can get
coffee and an introductions to people whose interests might
touch theirs. But that needs to be staffed by people who know
most of the rest already :-)

What I would like much more is some kind of "lab" where the main
projects are available on one or two machines with someone
knowledgeable around to show off, and a big banner saying
something about the app. If that's available on Friday and
Saturday morning, it might help the newcomers figure out what's
what and who's working on what.
