hi everyone, earlier this year i asked this list for advice about software for text animation, & was recommended synfig, sozi and blender. i had a look at them, & found that blender was the easiest to get my head around (a pleasant surprise, as i'd been warned that blender would be a steep learning curve; certainly it required quite a lot of time, but it was easier than i'd anticipated).
as my final output of the text animations needed to be a looped video, blender was good for this. and, after creating & presenting the installation, i also used blender to edit some video documentation of the project. you can see it here: https://vimeo.com/172102916 the text animations are projected onto mirror panels arranged at angles in the space, & the audience enter a few people at a time & can move around. unfortunately the mirror panels that i was able to use were a bit degraded - the surfaces were no longer taut and were losing the reflective coating, so i didn't manage to achieve the illusion of infinite depth of space that i managed in an earlier version of this idea. nevertheless, the audience at the festival where i presented it really loved it, & i hope to be able to create it again with better mirrors, & with the singer (helen chadwick) performing live along with the animated text. my longer term dream is to find an application that would allow me to animate the text in real time. i think it could be possible with pure data, but i haven't managed to master that yet ... thanks to those of you who gave me advice, h : ) -- helen varley jamieson [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.upstage.org.nz *Magdalena München - In Between - 14-16 October, München <http://themagdalenaproject.org/en/content/magdalena-m%C3%BCnchen-between>* /frauen - theater - performance/
