I have check the current code, but I fail to see how we could manage the product.template object. Adding users to the "Product variant" sure lets us see more fields, but it does not let us reuse an existing template in several products. For example if I copy a product.product, product_tmpl_id is different in the copy. There is indeed a portion of code in product.product.copy() that would reuse the template_id, but only if "variant" is in the context, which I have no idea how to make happen from the GUI.
So my guess is that it used to be possible, but it is no more. If such is the case, this bug is valid: would you care to confirm that please?
