It works. (tested with the code in openupgrade-addons/7.0/mail/migrations/7.0.1.0/post-migration.py) I think the extra documentation proposed by Holger is bright and can be put in the function documentation if possible. I believe that this functional branche has to be merged quickly because openupgrade-addons (trunk) use it.
