Dear Regine,
This is a very good analysis. I'd like to add, that in my view,
encodings such as LIDO
etc. play the role of primary information capture - the format for the
documentalist,
and the format for curating and managing the evolution of local
knowledge. CRM and FRBRoo in
RDF/OWL on the other side, also constitute and explicit encoding, for
instance by
choosing representations of primitive values and adopting URIs. The
latter encoding
is, to my opinion, the best format for information aggregation detached
from the curation
process.
Best,
Martin

Dear all,
See my previous message to the list:

However, we shouldn't conceal that for achieving full interoperability
by "mapping everything to RDF under CRM-FRBRoo" we still need in
contrast agreed / authoritative encodings, and an analysis as Michael
is carrying out might well facilitate agreed specialisations as they
are needed e.g. for sub-properties, and thereby fostering
interoperability.

The LIDO schema itself does not prohibit creating LIDO records for conceptual

Dear Michael,
It is also my understanding that LIDO is not intended for such
material. Seeing your question originally,
I assumed you talk about adding bibliographic references to museum
objects. By sure, abusing an XML schema
for another domain, albeit not explicitly excluded, does not help
interoperability. Interoperability should
come at an aggregation/integration level by mapping everything to
RDF under CRM-FRBRoo-.....
But I send this message to Regine, who's the authority for LIDO.
Best,
Martin
