Jim, That was the desired behavior and what you did was exactly how we expected someone to deal with it. The earlier way of creating VLAN was prone to lot of architectural issues and prone to complicate the data link management very complicated.
If Crossbow goes back to S10, yes an automatic upgrade script will be required (and would be easy to provide). For OpenSolaris, it was useful to make people notice that better options are available.
