As said previously, I believe the only client that supports this (at least in the standard C client distro) is the gtkv2 client in opengl mode. in SDL mode, it may be supported, and if that is the case, I'd expect it to be the same for both gtkv2 and gtk (v1) client. Basic display transpancy certainly is not supported.

For images that do have alpha set in modes that don't support it, the current processing is that if that alpha value is 0 (fully transparent) then don't draw it, if not fully transparent, we do draw it. So thus, you could change the alpha value of puddles and it should still work just fine - it may just not look as good.


 I have no idea about the new java client.
