The idea of the towel on the dash is an interesting one and the carpet covers should do the trick as well. However, I think I would go nuts having to look at that;) There is a local shop here that tinted the entire windshield on my Chevy Tahoe with very light tint that has the metal layer for heat rejection. I love it. Heat is drastically reduced and visibility is fine.
