The D16Z6 motor I have includes a custom high-flow fuel rail and adjustable fuel regulator. When Erik Coxe installed the engine, he adjusted the fuel pressure such that it always fires on the first turn-over just like yours- prior to this the DX motor had to crank 2-3 times before it fired. Custom regulators rock :).
Good to hear I didn't waste money on the SCI unit! Oh yeah, I ended up mounting the 6A vertical on the passenger side firewall between the A/C line and the fuel filter (the stupid charcoal canister used to be there). I was only able to sink two long machine screws on the top mounts leaving the bottom resting slightly against one of the wire loom harnesses. The Blaster coil is behind the right front headlight but I'm most likely going to move it back above the 6A unit. -George -----Original Message----- From: Mark Humphreys [mailto:] Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 9:07 AM To: ; Subject: Re: CRX: We have ignition! MSD that is... George, I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the MSD! Where did you decide to mount the box? I would love to see pics =) I can definently agree with you about the exhaust smell, when we were still troubleshooting my rex, my friend brought his MSD 6A off of his 69 chavelle SS, and we tested it with my other friends coil & cap...needless to say, it fired with the first bit of the turn of the key, and the exhaust smelt much much better. One thing that I didn't see in your review that I've been very happy with as far as my MSD setup is that the engine doesn't have to be turned over multiple times to get it to fire; I get in the car, clicl the key all the way to "on", wait for the check engine light to turn off (which has been explained to me indicated when the fuel rail is pressurised), then I turn the key that last bit to crank the engine over, and I hardly have to bump it, and it roard to life with, as you mentioned " the exhaust sounded "explosive" ". If anyone is living with an ailing distributor, assuming that the problem is electrical, over mechanical, I would strondly reccomend the MSD 6A box for a direct replacement, and it's good on almost any automobile, as I mentioned, I tried the one my friends was using on his 69 chavelle SS (for anyone who doesn't know that's a V8 chevy). Check out www.msdignition.com for more information. Also, don't waste your money on the SCI (Sport Compact Ignition) it's the same product as the regular MSD line, only with an $80.oo higher price tag, and a new badge that says "SCI"....that is unless you want the blue to better match your paint. One last note to this novel; every MSD product I've come across has a carb EQ number, and it comes with all the paperwork, stickers etc... -M >From: "George Freeman" <> >Reply-To: "George Freeman" <> >To: "'CRX Mailing List'" <> >Subject: CRX: We have ignition!
