I've had problems with my starter kinda like you're having with your
alternator. It would sparatically go out. I replaced it with an Autozone
starter, then it went out a week later. I took it back to Autozone and
got another one, just for it to go out the next day. So I talked to a guy
that I autocrossed with and turns out, he works for a company that
rebuilds starters and alternators for all kinds of vehicles/equipment
(18-wheelers, bull dozers, etc). He said they can also rebuild regular
car alternators/starters. So I gave him the original starter out of my
car (the one that lasted 150k miles) and he rebuilt it and it has never
had a problem since. Only cost me about $70-80 too. He said he sees
countless parts come from Autozone/PepBoys that are crap. He also said
that the original part out of your car is worth more than replacing it
because it's already lasted 100+k miles and once it's rebuilt with the
right parts, it'll last another 100+k miles.

Maybe you should see if you can find a place to rebuild your starter?
