You and I talked about this over a month ago.  If your sunroof is even
remotely like my '89's, it's got to be the threaded cable that the motor
turns against to open/close the roof.  This cable, which has two pieces that
meet at the back of the roof at the motor, can get rusted and worn, causing
a chattering and stuttering sound as the gears on the motor try to turn
against the worn threading on the cable.  This causes the roof to close
unevenly and bind.

On my '89 the cables come in a single assembly.  It is a DIY job if you're
comfortable with removing the headliner and dropping the tray that the
sunroof assembly sits on.
