On a SOHC you do not have to remove the cam, distro, sprocket. However, in my experience, it is easier to remove the timing belt by simply removing the cam sprocket. The distro is held on by three bolts (you might want to mark the location of adjustment with a marker or paint prior to removal) and is simple to remove.
Make sure that you use a new head gasket and that you clean all mounting surfaces, as well. If you are close to needing it, this is a good time to go ahead and do the timing, and other, belts, as well as the water pump. FWIW - On a DOHC, you do have to take out the cams, rockers, and cam holders, too! Not that hard, just a bunch of bolts to take loose and put back in. Do you need to remove the distributor? The Camshaft? The Cam sprocket. Just wondering because id rather not touch anything with the cam. I need to have a head bolt drilled out.
