Double check your timing. Sounds like you have the timing belt a few teeth off. Use the timing marks on the crank pulley. I also take out the spark plug for cyl 1 and put a long rod down the spark plug hole (brass or aluminum or wood). You can use this to help you find TDC. Watch the rod go up and down and you can find TDC easily.
