I have just gone through the process of dismantling
the interior of my 89 CRX Si. I also removed the entire sunroof assembly,
cleaned and greased it, replaced seals and guides and then reinstalled the
unit. Now I must remove the panel once again (not the tray) and shim the rear
corners flush with the roof.
The car was getting leaks during prolonged rain.
The headliner did not seem to get wet. Instead, the water would drip from the
hatch strut "posts" that attach just below the hatch-to-body seal. Also, I could
remove the hatch carpeting and the water would be flowing in a small stream from
the rear of the strut towers (behind the panel) down into the spare tire well.
Incidentally, the spare tire well is the only place that I found rust on the
car.
The drain tubes for the roof were not blocked and
are still nice and pliable. The sunroof panel and tray are not rusted out. They
are perfect. I don't really think the leak came from the sunroof. Anyone got
ideas? Perhaps the rear quarter windows? I can't seem to find any obvious
"route" that the water continuously travelled. I just want to cover all bases
before I put the interior back in.
BTW, I took LOTS of digital pics and will write up
a web how-to when I can.
Thanks,
Craig Borden
