Scott -

My recommendation would be to not try and fit the later Civic parts to your 91 CRX.  Instead, I would look at the body kits that are currently available for the CRX and perhaps even the Civic.  Many CRX owners are taking body kits that were designed for the Civic and making them fit onto their CRX.  A fair amount of body work skills is required to pull this off cleanly (I've seen too many that were botched).  Basically if you can work with fiberglass and body filler then you should be OK.  Otherwise I would suggest you employ the assistance of either a body shoppe or someone that is skilled in this area.

As for lights, there are more and more aftermarket light assemblies both front and rear available for the CRX.  A lot more than there was a year ago.  Same with fenders (i.e. the BMW Z3 "gill" fenders) and hoods.

If you are still set on using parts from a 96 Civic, you can fit them on but it won't be direct replacement/bolt on.  In many cases there will be a need for some custom work in order to get them to fit and look right.  So unless you have the time and the resources to do so ~ and you like/want the look that the 96 Civic(?) has ~ I would go for it.

Otherwise I would spend your time and money looking at what is currently available for the CRX and what is currently available for the Civic (which is a ton).  If you can take measurements of the non-CRX pieces, this will give you some idea as to the amount of work needed (and if it will be possible at all).

One thing you can do, and I've heard some people doing this, is to cut the front of a Civic (cutting it from the firewall) and doing the same with the CRX.  Then welding the Civic front to the CRX body.  I don't know how much additional work needed to be done with respects to the suspension, engine and tranny location.  And then there's the electrical harness and other things that would need to be done.  I don't know all the technicals and like I said, I've only *heard* of people doing this.  I know nothing more than that (i.e. I have not seen any photos or seen one in person).

Since you are looking to make your car "look fast" and it sounds like you really want to go pretty wild with the body work, I would suggest that you look for car shows that are like the Hot Import Nights and Hot Import Daze.  These types of shows usually attracts cars that are really radical and often times a one-off custom job where various pieces from different models were fused together.

Look at the cars, take lots of photos, and don't be afraid to ask people questions no matter how silly or stupid it may sound.  Chances are the people you talk with will give you good advice or at the very least be able to refer you to another person or shoppe.

Usually the larger shows like the Hot Imports Nights and Daze draws a huge crowd and I find that the cars in the parking lot to be more interesting than the ones in the show itself.  And the owners of the cars in the parking lots are more willing to talk about their ride and the things they've done.  I've met a lot of cool people in the parking lot (many of whom I still keep in contact with today).

Sorry I could not have been more of an assistance with your question which is why I also included the CRX Owners Discussion list with my reply as there are a few people on there that are into doing wild and radical custom work.  Perhaps they will also reply to you.

In any event, please keep me posted on what you end up doing.

Subject: CRX makeover

Hello I have writen before and found the response to be very helpful.  So I
turn to you again with help!  This is a big one... Im working to make my
look fast then actual make it go fast, so this is what im proposing: I was
wondering if you have any idea how much it might be to do a front end
conversion on a 91 CRX and replace all of the parts with stuff that would
fit a 96 Civic (like the headlights, bumper, hood, and maube even fenders).
Please get back to me as soon as you can, I need to know this info before
placing an order, so I know if I could do this or not!  Thank you very much
for your time, and your help!
