By any chance do you know how much horse power a 1998 Acura Integra GSR have?

Hi Sandy -

I believe the 1998 Acura Integra GSR was listed to produce 170 HP @ 7600 RPM.  I don't know off hand what the BHP is.

The B16A is a 4-cylinder DOHC 1.6L engine with, I believe, 160 HP @ 7600 RPM (150 BHP @ 7600 RPM).  There are actually two B16A's that I am aware of; one was for the 1991 Civic/CRX SiR and the other for the 1992 Civic SiR.  Both engines are pretty much the same except for the compression ratio.  The B16A used in the 1992 Civic SiR had a slightly higher compression ratio and so it produced about 10 more HP (and about 5 more BHP).

The B16A will fit into your CRX but you will require an engine mount kit.  I highly recommend the HA Sport kit which I believe sells for around $450 (USD).

Other things that come to mind that you will require for the swap include -

- Fuel injectors from a 1989-91 B16A.
- ECU from a 1989-91 B16A (or an after market one such as the ZDYNE or Jet).
- Distributor from a 1989-91 B16A.
- Upper radiator hose from a 1992-93 Acura Integra GSR (I believe you have to do some slight trimming to get it to fit).
- Lower radiator hose from a 1990-91 Acura Integra (again, I believe you have to do some slight trimming).
- Throttle cable from a 1990 Acura Integra.
- If you have AC and plan to use it, I believe HA Sport also sells an AC bracket/kit but I'm not 100% sure on this.

Since you have an Si, the stock harness can be modified or use a conversion harness (HA Sport can do both for you).

I believe you will also need a different shift linkage like that from a 1990-93(?) Integra as well as clutch cable (I think someone told me from an 1986-89 Integra).  Or you may be able to modify your stock one.  But I don't know if this is needed if you retain the use of your stock tranny or if you go with one like the Y-1 tranny.

But the part that I tend to be not real sure on when asked is the axles (aka: the immediate shafts).  There is a good chance that you will need to also replace your axles.  If you go with a Y-1 tranny, I believe it's a given.  Anyway, the immediate shafts from a GSR (1994 and up?) are shorter compared to the 1989-91 Civic/CRX SiR (which is used with the Y-1).  The immediate shaft used on the 1990-93 Integra's (I believe the transmission is referred to as the S1, J1 and A1) are longer than the ones found on the 1989-91 Civic/SiR.

Again, the part about the axles with respect to this engine swap always throws me for a loop because I'm not that up on this part of the conversion.  I've been told by many that the stock Si transmission and axle (1990-91) will work just fine with the B16A while others have said they needed to swap theirs out.  So, I don't really know what to suggest when it comes to this part of the conversion.  All I can do is warn you that there is a possibility (a high one) that you will need to do address the axle and/or transmission.

Because I am also not 100% sure about this conversion, I am including the CRX Owners Group Discussion list with my reply.  There are many people on that list who have done this conversion and hopefully they can double check my reply and pass on their knowledge.

I would also encourage you to check out HA Sport's web site at http://www.hasport.com as there is a lot of good information listed there.

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back with you but I have been traveling a lot lately and so I am now just getting around to replying to the emails I have gotten.  I hope I was able to provide the information that you were looking for.  Another place I would go to for information is the Hybrid Garage at http://tech.hybridgarage.com/.  Lots of good information is listed there as well.

Please keep me updated on your progress.

Take care.
