I had this same problem when i bought my rex, the
previous owner had ripped it off (don't know how,
didn't ask). The mount that it screws to, and the
cover were destroyed and mirror MIA.  I picked up a
new cover off ebay sealed with plastic filler to cover
the holes and picked up a windshield mount rearview
from a 02 explorer (the "electrochromatic auto-dimming
rearview) from work and some mirror glue from pep
boys.  Its got all the toys; tints, thermometer, and
compass... Gotta love the tint in the rex, eliminates
a lot of the blinding headlight in the rear view.
Maybe not the best fix if your going form a stock
look, but I like it.  

Just an idea... or alternative...
