If you can take the head off yourself and take a look at it I would recommend doing 
that regardless of what people think.  I snapped my timing belt very recently at low 
speed and thought for sure I bent some valves as I heard some not-so-good noises.  But 
low and behold they were all spared, pistons and all.  But I am still glad we pulled 
the head and had it pressure tested just to make sure.  Plus, it gives you a chance to 
get some of the carbon off the pistons and valves as it tends to build up.
