Guys,
Finally got "Purple Ice" running in the cooling system. To recap- pulled the stopcock on the radiator, dumped out most of the coolant leaving about 1/3 of it still in the block, put the stopcock back and replaced missing coolant with distilled water and Purple Ice (making the ratio about 80% water/20% coolant). After bleeding (de-foaming?) the system, first thing I noticed was no more loss of power while stuck in traffic! :) :) :) My theory is the D16Z6 has been running hotter around the combustion chamber due to the heavy duty rings/shaved head (higher compression=higher heat). The Purple Ice breaks the surface tension of the water significantly improving the heat transfer from the block to the coolant. The other thing I noticed was after popping the hood- no more "wall of heat." One side note, the cabin heat isn't what it used to be but that's not any big deal here in Florida. The rest of you stuck in the Northeast, have fun shoveling three feet of snow tomorrow!!! :) George "Little Beast" '89 DX-Hybrid-D16Z6, 128k miles Seats, Suspension, Engine, MSD
