Ottawa -- A major review of the state of the Canadian broadcasting system
will pry open a huge range of contentious issues, from funding for the CBC
and the role of the national regulator to media concentration and foreign
ownership.

The Commons committee on Canadian heritage announced yesterday it will spend
18 months, starting in September, examining how to deal with globalization
and its rapid and profound effect on broadcasting.
